923WTF

What an interesting start to our day.  We left the hotel to head for SUNY Purchase and get Claire checked into the dorm.   While waiting at an intersection we were rear-ended.  I was driving, and got out of the car to ask the other driver (who was showing no inclination to get out of his car) to pull over so we could call the police.  He was yelling at me that "it was alright...no problem, no problem!" and I said, "Why yes, there is a problem and that is why we are calling the police".  I asked Tim to get out and take a photo of his tag.
As soon as I pulled over the other driver tore off down the road.  At that moment, Tim indicated that his attempt at taking the photo was unsuccessful (new camera).  Fortunately, Claire noted the plate # so we still got it.
The police came and blah, blah, blah, but the best moment came later, when we were opening the trunk of our little SUV and Claire said, "Look at the tag, mom!".  We all started laughing, because, well, WTF?!
In all the years I've traveled and rented vehicles this is a first.  As long as everyone is okay, including the jerk who left the scene of the accident, the rest is just a minor annoyance and a bit of extra paperwork.

The better news is that Claire's dorm is very nice this year:  she is in Fort Awesome, a 2-year-old facility.
She only has 1 roommate this year, someone she knows and likes, and they have their own bathroom/shower and air-conditioning.  Things are looking up!

  1. As much as I hate that happened - perhaps it was meant to be - gives you more to think about! What a way to start off a trip - it can only get better! Be safe and we'll talk when you get home. LB
